Umai Holding builds Central Asia's leading food retail platform
The acquisition of the Vkusnaya Korzinka chain brings two successful retail businesses together and creates a platform of more than 220 stores in two countries.
Umai Holding, backed by Visor International, announces an agreement to acquire Vkusnaya Korzinka, one of the leading regional food retailers, operating 49 supermarkets in Taraz and other cities in the south of Kazakhstan. The deal is subject to review by the competition authority of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Once the deal is completed, the combined group will operate more than 220 stores in the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan, bringing together the market-leading multi-format business of Umai Group and the well-developed regional network of Vkusnaya Korzinka.
The investment will widen the range of products available to shoppers in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan and offer them better value through competitive prices, promotions and special offers.
Umai has also announced a partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), under which the company will receive a credit line of up to 50 million US dollars. The financing will go into a new distribution centre in Bishkek and further growth of the business in the Kyrgyz Republic.
“This deal is an important step towards our goal of building the leading food retail platform in the region. It brings together two strong businesses with recognised local brands and significant growth potential.” — Rud Pedersen, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Umai Group
“Visor International has supported the company for two decades, and this agreement marks the start of a new stage on that path.” — Michael Sauer, CEO and Partner of Visor International
